AN ORDINANCE concerning

City Emblems - Prohibited Uses

FOR the purpose of regulating the use of the City seal, City flag, and City logo.

BY adding the following portion to the Code of the City of Annapolis, 2018 Edition:

Section 1.08.060

WHEREAS, the City Council has adopted an official seal, flag, and logo, which are used in the authentication of the official documents and in the conduct of official City business; and

WHEREAS, the authorized use of the City seal, City flag, or City logo informs the public that the City's reputation for integrity and service to the public is behind an event or organization acting in partnership withthe City; and

WHEREAS, the unauthorized use of the City seal, City flag, or City logo may mislead the public into believing that the City of Annapolis is supporting certain activities, individuals or entities; and

WHEREAS, appropriate regulations are necessary in order to insure that the City seal, City flag, and City logo are not utilized except in conjunction with official City business.

SECTION I: BE IT ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the Code of the City of Annapolis shall be amended to read as follows:

TITLE 1 - GENERAL PROVISIONS

Chapter 1.08 - CITY EMBLEMS

Section 1.08.060 - City Emblems - Prohibited Uses.

For the purposes of this Section, "City Emblem" includes the city seal, city flag and city logo.

It shall be unlawful for an individual or entity to make or use any city emblem, or any representation or near representation thereof, for any purpose other than for the official business of the City of Annapolis and by any individual or entity other than the city council, a department, official or employ...
