A RESOLUTION expressing the Annapolis City Council's opposition to the development of Greenbury Point Conservation Area into a golf course.


Proposed Greenbury Point Conservation Area Golf Course

FOR the purpose of expressing the Annapolis City Council's opposition to the development of Greenbury Point Conservation Area into a golf course.

WHEREAS, Greenbury Point Conservation Area is located in Anne Arundel County and in the viewshed of the Annapolis National Historic Landmark District; and

WHEREAS, Greenbury Point Conservation Area represents a substantial portion of the land at Greenbury Point owned by the United States of America and managed by the Department of the Navy; and

WHEREAS, The land represented by Greenbury Point Conservation Area is included as a portion of the total land owned by the United States of America and considered to be 'publicly held'; and

WHEREAS, Greenbury Point Conservation Area has been managed for its natural resources, wildlife habitat and recreational trails under the designation of "conservation area" by the Department of the Navy since 1999; and

WHEREAS, Each year, tens of thousands of Annapolis residents and visitors enjoy the natural setting and views of the Chesapeake Bay and use the public recreational trails located at Greenbury Point Conservation Area; and

WHEREAS, The Department of Defense is a signatory of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement; and

WHEREAS, The Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement and the Clean Water Act require states and local jurisdictions to make substantial reductions in sediment and pollution runoff into streams and into the Chesapeake Bay, subject to ...
