A RESOLUTION concerning

 

American Athletic Conference Football Game March to Stadium

 

FOR the purpose of supporting the United States Naval Academy Brigade of Midshipmen who are authorized to walk from Gate 1 of the Naval Academy to the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to attend the American Athletic Conference Football Game to be played on December 5, 2015.

 

WHEREAS, Navy remains tied with Houston for first place in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference; and

 

WHEREAS, Navy and Houston both have a conference record of 6-0, and the two teams are scheduled to fight it out on the gridiron on November 27, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, Section 14.18.050K of the Code of the City of Annapolis exempts the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen from requiring a Special Event permit for Marches, but the Annapolis City Council wants to show its full support by allowing the Midshipmen to walk from Gate 1 of the Naval Academy to the Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, December 5th; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis hereby voices its support for the Brigade of Midshipmen, who are incredible athletes, outstanding scholars, and dedicated volunteers and mentors; and

 

WHEREAS,  in addition to excelling in football, participating in daily training, and studying, our Midshipmen tutor our local youth and organize food drives to help feed local families in addition to many other civic duties; and

 

WHEREAS, despite undergoing a regimented daily schedule that challenges our Navy Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically, they remain diligent and enthusiastic partners of the City of Annapolis -- always willing to offer their time, talent, and energy to our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS,                     the members of the Annapolis City Council hereby acknowledge that they are avid Navy football fans and that they offer their full support for all Midshipmen who continue to strive to make Annapolis a better place to live, work and play.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the United States Naval Academy Brigade of Midshipmen has the full support of the City Council when they walk from Gate 1 of the Naval Academy to the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to attend the American Athletic Conference Football Game to be played on December 5, 2015.
