AN ORDINANCE concerning

 

Chesapeake Children’s Museum Lease Renewal Through June 30, 2030

 

FOR                     the purpose of authorizing a lease agreement with Chesapeake Children's Museum, Inc., a Maryland corporation, for City property at 25 Silopanna Road in Annapolis commencing on July 1, 2025 and terminating on June 30, 2030.

 

WHEREAS,                      The City is the fee simple owner of an improved parcel of land located at 25 Silopanna Road in Annapolis, Maryland, and more accurately described in a deed recorded at  Liber 4881, folio 076, among the land records of Anne Arundel County (the "Property); and

 

WHEREAS,                      The Property at the head of Spa Creek is the former site of WYRE Radio, and the museum rents the former radio station/office building; it is 'improved' with a building (the "Building"), and the City has space therein to lease; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Under the current lease agreement, the Chesapeake Children's Museum is responsible for building improvements and maintenance in lieu of rent, and a long-term lease is requested to attract grants and donations to update the building and grounds as a lasting home for the museum; and

 

 

WHEREAS,                      The Chesapeake Children's Museum leased approximately 2,191 square feet of the Building to house the museum and includes the common areas and shared use of certain areas in the Building "collectively, the "Premises"), pursuant to an amended lease agreement dated June 25, 2015, which is an amended continuation of a lease agreement dated September 25, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The current amended lease agreement expires June 30, 2025, and the Tenant wishes to continue leasing the Premises to house the Chesapeake Children's Museum; and

 

WHEREAS,                     City Charter, Article III, Section 8 requires that the City Council approve such leases via passage of an ordinance.

 

SECTION I:                     BE IT ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL THAT consistent with Article II, Section 8 of the City Charter that the lease between the City of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Children's Museum for the rental for a portion of a City-owned building located at 25 Silopanna Road, Annapolis, Maryland, as more particularly described in the lease, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part of this Ordinance for the term and rental specified in the lease, is hereby approved.

 

SECTION II:  AND BE IT FURTHER ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL THAT:

1.                     The lease is an attachment to this Ordinance.

2.                     The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign the lease on behalf of the City of Annapolis; and

3.                     This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage
