A RESOLUTION concerning
Public Safety Employee Funeral Representation
FOR the purpose of establishing a policy that upon the death of a retired or active duty public safety employee, a public safety representative shallSHOULD attend the funeral of the employee with the consent of the legal authorized representative of the deceased employee’s family.
WHEREAS, the Caucus of African American Leaders (CAAL) and the City of Annapolis have been engaged in creating initiatives to enhance relationships between its public safety employees and that of their families; and
WHEREAS, the CAAL has requested that the City of Annapolis establish a policy of sending a public safety representative to a retired or active duty public safety employee’s funeral with the consent of the legal authorized representative of the deceased employee’s family; and
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis recognizes that public safety employees continuously place themselves at risk for the benefit of residents of and visitors to the City of Annapolis; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Alderpersons of the City of Annapolis wish to recognize the courage and dedication of retired and active duty public safety employees, by establishing a policy that upon the death of a retired or active duty public safety employee, a public safety representative shallSHOULD attend the funeral of the employee with the consent of the legal authorized representative of the deceased employee’s family.
NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that there is established a policy of the City of Annapolis upon the death of a retired or active duty public safety employee, a public safety representative shallSHOULD attend the funeral of the employee with the consent of the legal authorized representative of the deceased employee’s family, PROVIDED THE FUNERAL IS LOCAL AND ATTENDANCE BY A REPRESENTATIVE IS FEASIBLE.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
