A RESOLUTION concerning
Maryland Emergency Management Assistance Compact
FOR the purpose of respectfully requesting that the Maryland General Assembly amend the Maryland Emergency Management Assistance Compact to add the City of Annapolis as a listed jurisdiction in Section 14-801(e) of the Public Safety Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
WHEREAS, the Maryland Emergency Management Assistance Compact (MEMAC) provides a mechanism for member jurisdictions under which assistance may be rendered to enhance public safety; and
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis has the capabilities to provide assistance and support to member jurisdictions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis is not currently a MEMAC listed jurisdiction, which must coordinate any assistance it may render through Anne Arundel County to provide support; and
WHEREAS, coordination through Anne Arundel County creates administrative burdens and reduces the efficient flow of resources during an emergency; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Alderpersons of the City of Annapolis desire to assist member jurisdictions directly and to reduce administrative burdens associated with responding to public safety emergencies.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City of Annapolis respectfully requests that the Maryland General Assembly amend Section 14-801(e) of the Public Safety Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland to include the City of Annapolis as a listed jurisdiction.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City Clerk shall send a copy of this Resolution to the Maryland Governor, the Speaker of the House of Delegates, the President of the Senate and the Maryland Municipal League.
