A RESOLUTION concerning
2019 Special Election - Ward 6
FOR the purpose of authorizing the City of Annapolis to contract with the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to administer the City of Annapolis Special Primary and General Elections that will take place on June 4, 2019 and July 2, 2019, respectively.
WHEREAS, on April 30, 2019, Shanika Henson resigned from office as the Alderwoman for Ward 6; and
WHEREAS, Article II, Section 7(b) of the Annapolis Charter provides that when a vacancy occurs with 15 months or more remaining until the next general election a special election shall be held to fill the vacancy; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 4.08.030 of the Annapolis City Code, the City Council may contract with the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to administer any city election.
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis wishes to contract with the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to administer the City of Annapolis Special Primary and General elections that will take place on June 4, 2019 and July 2, 2019, respectively.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City of Annapolis is authorized to contract with the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to administer the City of Annapolis Special Primary and General Elections that will take place on June 4, 2019 and July 2, 2019, respectively.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of execution of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Annapolis and the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections.
