A RESOLUTION concerning
The Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center
FOR the purpose of recognizing the vital resources provided by the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center; and designating the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center as the Annapolis City Ambassador to the Tall Sailing Ships and historic boats community in furtherance of the maritime heritage of Annapolis.
WHEREAS, the Department of Natural Resources has historically provided support to the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center through the provision of dock space at the historic Capt. William H. Burtis house;
WHEREAS, the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center has organized and hosted visits by tall ships and historic vessels such as "Sultana", "Maryland Dove", "Easterner", "Bolero", "Silent Maid", "When & If", "Lady Maryland", "Summerwind", "Sorcerer II", "Witchcraft", "Lacerta", "Sigsbee" and many other vessels that visit Annapolis on an ongoing basis;
WHEREAS, the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center is working with the City to establish an annual "Up-rigging" program for tall ships in Annapolis each May, similar to the "Down-rigging" program held each fall in our sister City Chestertown, Maryland;
WHEREAS, the Annapolis Waterfront & Sailing Center has worked with Anne Arundel County Public Schools to organize and run "STEM Sailing" and "History of Sailing" programs for students;
