A RESOLUTION concerning
City Dock Flood Mitigation
FOR the purpose of respectfully requesting that the State of Maryland provide assistance to the City of Annapolis to provide for the funding of the design phase of the City Dock Flood Mitigation Project.
WHEREAS, the City Dock in Annapolis and the surrounding environs are increasingly subject to flooding as a result of sea level rise along the Maryland coastlines; and
WHEREAS, various studies and reports suggest that the sea level rise will continue and further impact the Annapolis City Dock and environs, damaging commerce, historic properties and maritime endeavors unless such sea level rise is addressed; and
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis has already initiated cooperation and coordination of efforts to mitigate sea level rise with the U.S. Naval Academy, Anne Arundel County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and
WHEREAS, the expenses associated with providing effective flood mitigation are significant and beyond the resources of the City of Annapolis alone; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Alderpersons of the City of Annapolis desire to obtain assistance from the State of Maryland to fund the first phase of the City Dock Flood Mitigation Project.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City of Annapolis respectfully requests that the Maryland Governor include a request for funding in the Governor's capital budget and that the Maryland General Assembly provide bond proceeds in an amount up to One Million Dollars to fund the City Dock Flood Mitigation Project.
