A RESOLUTION concerning
Shiley Park
FOR the purpose of designating certain City-owned land at the eastern end of Shiley Street in West Annapolis as a public park; and matters generally relating to said park.
WHEREAS, the City of Annapolis owns approximately 1/18th of an acre of land at the eastern end of Shiley Street in West Annapolis as depicted in the attached map; and
WHEREAS, certain residents of Shiley Street have been planting and maintaining the area through the City's GreenScape Program for the last 8 years; and
WHEREAS, those residents have approached the City and requested that this land be officially designated as a public park; and
WHEREAS, the Article VI, Section 11(b)(1) of the Annapolis Charter authorizes the City to maintain, operate and control parks on City-owned land; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of those residents who have improved and maintained the land at the eastern end of Shiley Street by officially designating that area as a public park.
NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City park to be established at the eastern end of Shiley Street in West Annapolis shall hereafter be known as "Shiley Park."
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that no permanent structures shall be erected in the park that may impair future access to Shiley Street in the event of an emergency.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
