A RESOLUTION concerning

 

Anne St. Clair Wright Legacy Tablet

 

FOR                     the purpose of accepting a bequest from the late Alderman Richard E. Israel and approving a matching allocation of City funds to be used to establish an outside Tablet in honor of Anne St. Clair Wright.

 

WHEREAS,                     on or about June 23, 2015, Alderman Richard E. Israel made a bequest in the First Codicil to his Last Will and Testament of $1,000 to the Heritage Commission of the City of Annapolis as partial funding to establish a Tablet in honor of the late Anne St. Clair Wright; and

 

WHEREAS,                     a condition of the bequest is that the City of Annapolis match the $1,000 legacy to provide adequate funding to establish said commemorative Tablet; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Anne St. Clair Wright championed the preservation movement in Annapolis, Maryland from the very first meeting of the Historic Annapolis Foundation until her death in 1993.  Mrs. Wright saved numerous historically significant buildings while educating the public on Annapolis’ history.  Her tenacity and loyalty to preserving historic Annapolis made it the living museum and tourist destination it is today; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The Heritage Commission is charged with advising on and facilitating the development of programs and activities that increase public awareness, appreciation and preservation of the cultural heritage of the City of Annapolis; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The Heritage Commission has discretion to develop programs and projects in partnership with the Historic Preservation Commission and other heritage-related agencies and organizations that keeps the cultural heritage alive in our memory as a part of what has shaped us as a people, nation, and culture.  This can include commemorative events, publications, monuments, markers, awards and other educational activities; and

 

WHEREAS,                     the Annapolis City Council wishes to express its gratitude in accepting this generous bequest and acknowledges its willingness to jointly commemorate the legacy of Anne St. Clair Wright.

 

NOW THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the $1,000 bequest from the late Alderman Richard E. Israel is hereby accepted, and a matching allocation of City funds is hereby approved to be used to establish an outside Tablet in honor of Anne St. Clair Wright.  Said funds shall be reflected as an expendable trust on the City’s accounting records.

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
