A RESOLUTION concerning

Linnell Lane

FOR the purpose of renaming Chase Street to "Linnell Lane" for one day on the occasion of Linnell Bowen's retirement on June 9, 2017 and the street shall thereafter bear that name in an honorary capacity.

WHEREAS, twenty-one years ago Linnell Bowen became President of Maryland Hall and has been a leading advocate for arts in the community; and

WHEREAS, formerly both a student and a history teacher at Annapolis High School, Linnell Bowen led the adaptive reuse of the 85-year old structure into a facility that has room for year-round performances, educational classes, and art exhibitions; and

WHEREAS, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is our community's arts center, providing lifelong, accessible engagement in the arts; and

WHEREAS, Maryland Hall has many arts-related programs, including Arts Education, Outreach, Visual Arts, Performance Arts, Resident Companies, Artists-in-Residence, Community Partners and Peabody Preparatory, each year presenting more than 700 classes, 60 performances, showcasing the works of hundreds of emerging and professional artists, and serving nearly a thousand at-risk students through ArtReach workshops; and

WHEREAS, Maryland Hall reinforces the reputation of Annapolis as an arts and cultural destination in the State, contributing significantly to the region's vibrancy, quality of life, and economy; and

WHEREAS, Linnell Bowen believes art is important to all children in shaping and enriching their lives and developed a partnership between Maryland Hall and the Anne Arundel County Sc...
