AN ORDINANCE concerning

Market House Tenant Lease Extension

FOR the purpose of extending all current tenant leases of the Market House for one-year.

WHEREAS, the last City Administration solicited and selected Market House vendors in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ordinance 46-11, adopted by the Annapolis City Council on November 17, 2011, authorized the Mayor to enter into vendor leases for the Market House on behalf of the City for terms not to exceed five (5) years; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor of Annapolis entered into six vendor leases for the Market House in 2013; and

WHEREAS, existing vendor leases for Market House tenants expire on December 31, 2017; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor's authorization to enter into further vendor leases for the Market House expired on November 17, 2016; and

WHEREAS, after December 31, 2017, all current tenants of the Market House would be operating on month-to-month lease terms; and

WHEREAS, due to considerable time restrictions this being an Election Year, the City Council desires to extend all current tenant leases of the Market House for one year, starting January 1, 2018, so that the newly elected City Council may consider and take such action governing the operation of the Market House as it deems appropriate; and

NOW, THEREFORE,

SECTION I: BE IT ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that, pursuant to Article III, Section 8 of the Annapolis City Charter, IF THE CITY MANAGER DECLARES THAT NEGOTIATIONS FOR A LEASE FOR THE MARKET HOUSE HAVE COME TO AN IMPASSE, all current tenant leases of the Market House shall be extended for one year, starting January 1, 2018.
