A RESOLUTION concerning
Dedication of City Property
FOR the purpose of dedicating the City Hall Gallery to former Mayor Ellen O. Moyer and installing a plaque in the Gallery to commemorate said dedication.
WHEREAS, Former Mayor Ellen Moyer has been a champion of the arts in the City of Annapolis since the 1960s, her hand and vision can be found in Maryland Hall (founding member), Annapolis Summer Garden Theater, Annapolis Maritime Museum and the Art In Public Places Commission and the West Street Arts District
WHEREAS, the City Hall Gallery was established under former Mayor Ellen Moyer's administration and at her direction; and
WHEREAS, former Mayor Ellen Moyer's impressive biography includes: Executive Director, Maryland Commission for Women in the late 1970s, Lobbyist for the Maryland State Teachers Association, Member, Strategic Committee on the State Plan for Higher Education from 1999 to 2000, Member, Maryland Racing Commission from 1999 to 2003, Alderwoman, Annapolis City Council from 1987 to 2001, first woman Mayor of Annapolis, from 2001 to 2009; and founded the Annapolis Arts Alliance in 2003.and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as Mayor, former Mayor Ellen Moyer established the Annapolis Conservancy Board and the City's Greenscape program, which for those of us who find art in nature, means that she was incremental in establishing the street end parks in Eastport (and around Annapolis), and the extensive tree canopy in Annapolis, which exists largely because of her persistence and leadership; and
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL...
