A RESOLUTION concerning

 

City Co-Sponsored Benefit Concert Special Event

 

FOR                     the purpose of identifying the City co-sponsored Special Event “Annapolis Rising: Benefit for The Capital Gazette and for the Free Press” to occur on July 28, 2018; and waiving certain related City fees for that event.

 

WHEREAS,                     on July 28, 2018, the City of Annapolis shall be co-sponsoring a “Annapolis Rising: Benefit for The Capital Gazette and for the Free Press” Concert Special Event to be held at the intersecting roadways of Calvert Street and Clay Street in Annapolis, Maryland; and

 

WHEREAS,                     the purpose of the “Annapolis Rising: Benefit for The Capital Gazette and for the Free Press” Concert Special Event is to honor the victims of the incident that occurred at the Capital Gazette Newspaper offices located in Annapolis, Maryland on June 28, 2018.; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Section 14.18.020 of the City Code defines “City Sponsored Events” as “special events for which the City waives some or all fees or otherwise directly participates in the cost of the event”; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Section 14.18.110 of the City Code further states that “the City Council may exempt certain special events from fees by resolution”; and

 

WHEREAS,                     in prior fiscal years the City has waived certain City fees for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade, the Memorial Day Parade, the Independence Day Parade, the USNA Band Concerts, the Kunta Kinte Festival, the Tug of War, the Grand Illumination, the Lights Parade, and the New Year’s Eve Celebration.

 

NOW THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the June 28, 2018 “Annapolis Rising: Benefit for The Capital Gazette and for the Free Press” Concert is designated a City Co-sponsored Special Event during Fiscal Year 2019 in recognition of “Freedom of the Press” and in honor of the victims of the June 28, 2018 incident at the Capital Gazette offices in Annapolis, Maryland:

 

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that there shall be a waiver of full fees for the June 28, 2018 “Annapolis Rising: Benefit for The Capital Gazette and for the Free Press” Concert Special Event the City of Annapolis shall contribute a $10,000 donation to the Anne Arundel County Community Foundation-Capital Gazette.

 

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
