The Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis - Federal Government
Employee Assistance
FOR the purpose of deferring the time for payment of water and sewer service bills that otherwise became due between January 1, 2019 and March 31, 2019, for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis and federal government employees.
WHEREAS, the U.S. government was partially shut down from December 22, 2018 through January 25, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the partial shutdown caused significant hardship for many federal employees who were not paid during the period of the shutdown; and
WHEREAS, the partial shutdown affected funding to the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis has requested a deferment in the payment of its water and sewer service bills until federal funding is restored,
WHEREAS, the Annapolis City Council wishes to provide temporary relief to the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis and federal employees affected by the federal government shutdown;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the Finance Director is hereby authorized to defer to April 1, 2019, the required payment of water and sewer service bills due from January 1, 2019 through March 31, 2019 for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis and from any federal government employee who requests a deferral, provided the federal government employee provides a current federal government identification to the Department of Finance.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that no interest or penalties shall be imposed on water and sewer service bills due between January 1, 2019 and March 31, 2019, for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis and any federal employee who requests a deferred payment, provided the Department of Finance receives the deferred payment no later than April 1, 2019.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
