A RESOLUTION concerning

 

Community Celebration on June 28, 2019

 

FOR                     the purpose of declaring that the Community Celebration at Maryland Hall on June 28, 2019, is a City sponsored event.

 

 

WHEREAS,                      the City of Annapolis will provide an opportunity for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County residents to come together remembering the victims and families of the Capital shooting; and

 

WHEREAS,                      the City wants to remember Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiassen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith, and Wendi Winters with music and support; and

 

WHEREAS ,                     the response to this tragedy demonstrates how our City has endless capacity to love one another moving toward “One Annapolis,” where all are included, welcomed and valued; where diversity is embraced and celebrated; and where every resident has economic, social, and cultural opportunities; and

 

WHEREAS,                     this free event will recognize the first Free Press Day in Maryland and support the importance of a Free Press; and

 

WHEREAS,                      the June 28, 2019, “Community Celebration: First Year Anniversary of the Capital Gazette Shooting” shall be designated a City sponsored special event in recognition of “Freedom of the Press” and in honor of the victims of the June 28, 2018, incident at the Capital Gazette offices in Annapolis, Maryland.

 

 

NOW THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the following special event is declared a City sponsored event in the geographic location specified:

 

                     “Community Celebration: First Year Anniversary of the Capital Gazette Shooting” - at Maryland Hall, June 28, 2019, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

 

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
