A RESOLUTION concerning

 

Sailing Vessel Lynx - Docking Fee Waiver

 

FOR                     the purpose of waiving the fees for docking the Sailing Vessel Lynx at the Annapolis City Dock for ten days in October 2022.

 

WHEREAS,                     the organizing committee, comprised of Annapolis constituents, is requesting a docking fee waiver for the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, sailing vessel Lynx, owned by the nonprofit foundation The Lynx Educational Foundation, which is visiting the Annapolis City Dock during the period of October 19 through October 29, 2022; and

 

WHEREAS,                     the Maiden is currently on tour and she will be open for public tours while docked in downtown Annapolis; and

 

WHEREAS,                     S/V Lynx is a reconstruction of the topsail schooner Lynx built in Fells Point, Maryland, by Thomas Kemp in 1812 to be an American privateer schooner sailing in the Chesapeake Bay during the War of 1812 with the goal of attacking British ships; and

 

WHEREAS,                      the original Lynx carried six 12-pounders and a crew of 40 men for only a month before being captured at the mouth of the Rappahannock River by the British; and

 

WHEREAS,                     S/V Lynx was rebuilt and launched in 2001 from Rockport, Maine, and serves as a living history museum; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Annapolis is one of the East Coast visits for S/V Lynx this boating season and will be reaching out to local area schools and community groups; and 

 

WHEREAS,                      The LYNX Educational Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization, dedicated to hands-on educational programs that teach the history of America's struggle to preserve its independence; and

 

WHEREAS,                      the City of Annapolis, in recognition of the Lynx’s mission to promote the history of the Chesapeake Bay and traditional sailing in the United States, and foster economic development and tourism, wishes to waive the fees for her to dock while visiting Annapolis from October 19 through October 29, 2022.

 

NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the fees for docking the Lynx at the City of Annapolis from October 19th through 29th, 2022 are hereby waived.

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
