A RESOLUTION concerning

2023 Annapolis Pride Parade and Festival - Waiver of Fees

FOR the purpose of identifying the Annapolis Pride Parade and Festival as a City-supported event to be held on June 3, 2023; and waiving certain related City fees for that event.

WHEREAS, On June 3, 2023, the Annapolis Pride organization will sponsor the Annual Pride Parade and Festival in the Historic District of the City of Annapolis; and

WHEREAS, The 2023 Annapolis Pride and Festival Special Event is expected to welcome over 10,000 participants and attendees from different parts of the mid-Atlantic region. The event features regional marching groups and festival exhibitors made up of local nonprofits, businesses, and organizations; and

WHEREAS, The inaugural parade was in June 2019, marking the 50-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, an uprising to resist harassment and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, which marked the beginning of the LGBQ+ rights movement; and

WHEREAS, Annapolis Pride embraces the vision that an inclusive community is a thriving community; and

WHEREAS, Annapolis Pride celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, engaging local residents, businesses, and groups to unite in welcoming and embracing diversity in Annapolis; and

WHEREAS, Section 14.18.110 of the City Code states that "The City Council may exempt certain special events from the application fee and location fee set by resolution";
