A RESOLUTION concerning

International Firefighters Day 2024

FOR the purpose of the City of Annapolis recognizing International Firefighters Day on May 4, 2024, and the extraordinary service that Annapolis firefighters and Annapolis Fire Department staff provide to protect our City.

WHEREAS, The brave men and women of the fire service risk their lives every day to protect our community; and

WHEREAS, The Annapolis Fire Department (AFD) responded to 13,099 calls for service over the past year, including:
* 10,444 Emergency Medical Services (EMS) encounters (9683 Dispatched EMS Incidents; some incidents had multiple patients, resulting in a higher number of EMS encounters)
* EMS Transports: 6,341
* Cardiac Arrests: 159
* Workable Arrests: 84
* ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation) in the field or ED: 20
* Gift of Life Awards (Patient was discharged from the hospital in a state of life equal to or near the quality before the event): 4
* Babies delivered: 1

WHEREAS, AFD collected more than $3.6 million in EMS fees and ESPP during Fiscal Year 2023; and

WHEREAS, AFD firefighters were dispatched to 3,176 suspected fire incidents:
* Fires in the city of Annapolis (confirmed): 85
* Structure Fires (confirmed):48
* Fire deaths since 2010: NONE; and

WHEREAS, The AFD Fire Marshall's office is responsible for safety, permits, and building inspections:
* Fire Safety Inspections Conducted: 765
* Fire Safety Re-inspections Conducted: 420
* Fire Permit/Plan Review: 222
* Building Permit Review: 113
* Use and Occupancy Inspections: 106
* Fire Marshal Fees Collected: $120,933.00; and
