A RESOLUTION concerning
National Sailing Hall of Fame
FOR the purpose of expressing the support of the City Council in retaining the National Sailing Hall of Fame in the City of Annapolis.
WHEREAS, the waters of the Annapolis harbor and the use of these waters by all manner of vessels, including those under sail, have been and continue to be a crucial part of the historical, economic and social life of a diverse Annapolis and National community; and
WHEREAS, the City Dock and the surrounding area is the preeminent public space for the diverse residents, tourists and general public who gather in Annapolis to assemble for civic, charitable, historical and purposes including recognition that Annapolis is known as the “America’s Sailing Capital”; and
WHEREAS, since November, 2005, the National Sailing Hall has endeavored to promote the City of Annapolis and the history of sailing, and has brought to the City enhanced economic value and otherwise fulfilled its mission as a cultural, historical and educational non-profit organization; and
WHEREAS, the National Sailing Hall of Fame has inaugurated programs focusing on the science of sailing, celebrated American sailors, the environment, and recognition of those who have become beacons of positive values and role models for our youth; and
WHEREAS, the National Sailing Hall of Fame has focused on the development of interactive displays directed to young people making its facility an educational tool for the City, County and State.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City of Annapolis supports retaining the National Sailing Hall of Fame within the City of Annapolis.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect from the date of its passage.
