A RESOLUTION concerning
Finance Director - Karen Ajayi
FOR the purpose of expressly confirming the appointment of Karen Ajayi as Finance Director; consenting to compensate the Finance Director; and setting an effective date.
WHEREAS, The Annapolis Charter, Article VI, Section 3, establishes the Finance Department and provides that the Finance Director shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, The Annapolis Charter, Article VI, Section 3, states that the Finance Director shall be appointed based on their knowledge and experience in governmental accounting, budgeting, and public financial administration. This appointment requires a minimum of three years of experience in an executive or supervisory capacity. and
WHEREAS, The Annapolis City Code, Section 3.08.030(F)(1)(ii), provides that the appointment and initial salary for the Finance Director are subject to confirmation by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, The Finance Director position became vacant on November 19, 2025, when the former Finance Director departed; and
WHEREAS, Karen Ajayi possesses the requisite knowledge of municipal law and administration required by Article VI, Section 3, of the Annapolis Charter; and
WHEREAS, Pursuant to the foregoing Annapolis Charter and City Code provisions, the City Council is required to expressly consent to the confirmation and compensation of the Finance Director.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the City Council expressly confirms the appointment of Karen Ajayi to the position of Finance Director and consents to compensate Karen Ajayi as Finance Director in the amount of $187,500 per annum commencing June 18, 2026.
AND BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this resolution shall take effect upon passage.
