A RESOLUTION concerning

 

Recognition of City of Annapolis Public Service Employees

                     

FOR                     the purpose of expressing the sense of the City Council that the City's public service employees should be commended for their dedication and continued service to the City of Annapolis.

 

WHEREAS,                     President Joe Biden proclaimed May 7 through 13 as Public Service Recognition Week, a week set aside to honor and recognize the contributions made by all federal, state, local and tribal public service workers; and

 

WHEREAS,                     Public Service Recognition Week provides an opportunity to recognize and promote the significant contributions of public servants throughout the month of May to honor the diverse men and women who meet the needs of the City through work at all levels of government; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The City of Annapolis has approx. 500 civil service employees in FY 2024, representing a cross-section of the population, including, but not limited to,  white, Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, and Native Americans who work as office-based professionals, technicians, public safety, administration support, skilled craftsmen and women, and maintenance professionals.

 

WHEREAS,                     The City of Annapolis' public service employees are responsible 24/7 for the City's streets, street lighting, refuse collection, police, recreation and parks, harbor, parking, public transportation, fire suppression and emergency services, planning and zoning, water production and distribution, and wastewater collection.

 

 

WHEREAS,                      Public service is a noble calling involving a variety of challenging and rewarding professions; and

 

WHEREAS,                     The City's ability to be responsive, innovative, and effective depends on the outstanding performance of dedicated public servants and the City benefits daily from the knowledge and skills of the highly trained individuals who work in public service;

 

NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL commends its public service employees for their outstanding contributions to the City of Annapolis throughout the years because the City of Annapolis' employees touch the lives of every resident with their 24/7 service, many working through the night to fix water main leaks, keeping the city safe and responding to any number of resident's emergencies, and more.

 

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL encourages the efforts to promote public service careers at the many levels of City government and honors the unyielding dedication of those who currently work for the City of Annapolis.
