A RESOLUTION concerning

Sister City Relationship with the City of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

FOR the purpose of authorizing a sister city relationship between the City of Annapolis and the City of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

WHEREAS, Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the Miljacka River, has invited Annapolis to participate as a Sister City, joining established Sarajevo Sister City capitals including Ankara, Budapest, Kuwait City, Madrid, Stockholm, Tripoli, Zagreb; and

WHEREAS, Sarajevo, like America (and Annapolis), is known for its multicultural heritage, where people of different ethnicities and cultures coexist together; and

WHEREAS, Sarajevo has Bascarsija, a famous bazaar and tourist destination in the historic district; while Annapolis has the historic port known as City Dock; and

WHEREAS, Sarajevo has Vrelo Bosne, a natural park on the outskirts of the City, highlighting the natural beauty of the region, while Annapolis has the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, which has provided beauty and bounty to residents of the region for centuries; and

WHEREAS, The Sister City Program is a global network of over 1,600 communities in 145 countries that are dedicated to building relationships through citizen diplomacy; and

WHEREAS, The City of Sarajevo is a vibrant and diverse community that shares many values with the City of Annapolis; and

WHEREAS, A sister city relationship between the City of Annapolis and the City of Sarajevo would provide opportunities for mutually beneficial exchanges in the fields of business, arts, culture, education, sports, and...
