A RESOLUTION concerning

Annual Meeting and Tourism Industry Reception

FOR the purpose of identifying the Annual Meeting and Tourism Industry Reception that will be held on January 23, 2024, as a Special Event and waiving certain City of Annapolis fees for services related to that event.

WHEREAS, Section 14.18.110 of the City Code states that "the City Council may exempt certain special events from fees by resolution"; and

WHEREAS, The Annual Meeting and Tourism Industry Reception will take place on January 23, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the circular parking lot behind the Visit Annapolis building; and

WHEREAS, Tourism in 2022 grew to 103% of pre-pandemic levels, topping 43.5 million statewide, according to the Maryland Office of Tourism; and

WHEREAS, Tourism attracts more than 5,000,000 visitors from 28 different countries to Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and generates an estimated $3,000,000 in heritage tourism revenue annually, according to Historic Annapolis; and

WHEREAS, The Maryland tourism industry also generated nearly $2.3 billion in state and local taxes in 2022, an increase of 11% over the previous year, saving each Maryland household more than $900 in annual taxes, according to the Maryland Office of Tourism.

NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that:
1. The Annual Meeting and Tourism Industry Reception hosted by Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County that will be held on January 23, 2024, is hereby designated a Special Event in recognition of its significance to tourism in our City.
