A RESOLUTION concerning
Regional Transit
FOR the purpose of expressing the sense of the City Council that the concept of regional transit warrants further exploration with the jurisdictions that are interested in pursuing a regional transportation entity.
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted R-28-13 on June 10, 2013 that expressed the sense of the Annapolis City Council for the Administration to move forward with negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Central Maryland Transportation & Mobility Consortium and to participate in a non-binding way with respect to the Request for Proposals; and
WHEREAS, Howard County has provided the City of Annapolis with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding that would govern the cooperative efforts to establish an efficient and effective coordinated regional fixed-route and paratransit bus system throughout central Maryland to be branded and referred to as the "Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland" (or "RTA"); and
WHEREAS, Howard County has set a March 25, 2014 deadline for the City to sign the MOU on the RTA in order to begin regional service on July 1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the City continues to engage with all interested jurisdiction to evaluate the proposed approach to regional transit service and how it will impact current transportation operations for our ridership and City Department of Transportation employees; and
