AN ORDINANCE concerning

 

City Holidays - Juneteenth

 

FOR                                      the purpose of designating Juneteenth National Independence Day as a City paid holiday.

 

BY                                      repealing and reenacting with amendments the following portions of the Code of the City of Annapolis, 2021 Edition

1.12.010

 

SECTION I:  BE IT ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that the Code of the City of Annapolis shall be amended to read as follows:

 

Title 1 - GENERAL PROVISIONS

Chapter 1.12 - CITY HOLIDAYS

 

Section 1.12.010 - Designated.

 

The following holidays are observed as holidays of the City:

 

A.                                      New Year's Day, celebrating the advent of a new year, January 1st;

B.                                      The birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., commemorating the cause of human

                                      rights, the third Monday in January;

C.                                      President's Day, celebrating the life and accomplishments of all deceased

                                      presidents of the United States, the third Monday of February;

D.                                      Maryland Day, celebrating the founding of the State of Maryland, March 25th;

E.                                      Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Friday

                                      Immediately preceding Easter;

F.                                      Memorial Day, commemorating those who have given their lives in the

                                      defense of our nation, the last Monday of May;

G.                                      JUNETEENTH NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY, COMMEMORATING

                                      THE END OF SLAVERY IN THE UNITED STATES, JUNE 19TH.

GH.                                      Independence Day, celebrating the Declaration of Independence and

                                      commemorating the American Revolution, July 4th;

HI.                                      Labor Day, commemorating the American labor movement, the first Monday

                                      of September;

IJ.                                      Veterans Day, commemorating the service of all Americans in defense of the

                                      nation, November 11th;

JK.                                      Thanksgiving, celebrating the freedom and bounty within the grasp of all

                                      Americans, the fourth Thursday of November;

KL.                                      Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, December 25th.

 

SECTION II:  AND BE IT FURTHER ESTABLISHED AND ORDAINED BY THE ANNAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL that this ordinance shall take effect from the date of its passage.
